How do we know when God is speaking to us or when it is our own thoughts? People ask all the time do you hear God's voice. The truth is He speaks in your heart and He speaks to you through the spirit. When He walked on the earth he was able to guide and instruct audibly on the outside because he lived but He speaks clearly in John 14:16-17 that He will ask His Father to leave us another Comforter when He is gone from the earth. "The Spirit of Truth" remains with us forever and it cannot be seen but He lives with us constantly and is always with us. That Comforter is known as "The Holy Spirit". Therefore the Lord will speak to you from inside/within, not audibly, because He lives in you. Many thoughts come from within and they are from God. People call it intuition...it is not intuition for intuition is a feeling ... it is a person. He speaks to us through His word, the bible. He speaks to us through other people and directly to us. Mostly He speaks to us about us....circumstances, instructions, about our character. If you ever doubt it was Him you heard, reference everything through His word. There will be no contradictions. If it is Him and you choose to ignore, you are rebelling therefore being disobedient. So study God's word, learn about Him, His ways, nature...and you will know how to listen to God.
