Don’t try to change people. It won’t work, and they will end up resenting you. Only God can change people! -
Joyce Meyer
Very wise words. I learned not to ask God to change anyone but instead to change me. And He did. I used to have a very hard heart, easy to anger and slow to forgive. It was easier for me to wipe my hands clean of a person and discard them like trash than stick it out and learn how to overcome uncomfortable situations. I used to be proud I was like my Dad in that way but years later when I received Christ into my heart I learned that God wanted me to love all people, enemies and strangers alike, like He loved me. I was disheartened to see that all those years I walked away from people and never looked back was the wrong thing to do. Broken relationships and countless friendships. All I try to do now is really work on relationships and try to see the good in people and not dwell on the things that annoy me, like I so easily did before. And it is actually interesting because you will see how much you have changed and sometimes how far you progressed to look and see that the other person has not changed at all. That is when I lift them up to the Lord and pray for them. I ask the Lord to open their eyes and soften their hearts because no one can convict one's heart like He can. So when you find yourself frustrated with your spouse or child, sibling or friend, ask the Lord to change you...your mindset, your words, your heart, your attitude and see what miraculous work He will do. Sometimes the problem is you and not the other person. We have to keep our hearts humble and not defensive, we must be prepared to change and learn to be sensitive to others. I promise you, I speak from experience. So ask the Lord to touch your heart and heal your hurt or anger towards someone/others and allow the Holy Spirit to manifest in your life and may you embrace the healing. God knows our true heart, motive and intent on all things...He is just waiting for you.....be blessed on your new journey. You will be so happy you did this for yourself.
John 13:34-3
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
