Be very careful who you allow into your life. As a believer it is very difficult to maintain a healthy growing relationship with the Lord when you surround yourself with non believers. As my niece once illustrated for my husband and I ...picture someone on an ottoman standing higher than the person on the floor, it is much easier for the person below to drag and pull the higher up person down than it is to pull up someone below. She then grabbed his arm and pulled him off the ottoman to make the point. And she was right. The church often times neglects to tell you what happens after you receive Christ as your Lord and Savior. Coming to Christ is not about behavior modification, it is about being born again of the Spirit and having total transformation. The old self must die. If you have said the sinner's prayer but never changed your life, environment or self, you will most likely backslide back to your old ways and lifestyle. I encourage you to find a circle of believers to learn with aka bible study or bible classes in your local church. Consistent church attendance is key and reading the Word. My pastor once told us that the best way to begin reading your bible is to read through the entire chapter of Genesis, which is the first book in the Old Testament and then read Psalms and Proverbs. Once those have been written, read book after book starting with Matthew. Allow yourself to come into agreement with the Word so as you read it, your heart is receiving it and your soul is retaining it...thus the transformation can truly begin. So we first repent of our sins, receive the faith through giving our heart to Jesus and then we are to be baptized. Our daily walk then consists of humbling ourselves before God and trusting in our Savior. Seek God through daily prayer and you must always remember that true conversion is two folded...the new born will have an unbelievable appetite for the Word and the greatest testimony of the Christian faith is a changed life.
