Do not say, "I'll pay you back for this wrong!" Wait for the LORD, and he will deliver you.
Proverbs 20:22
It is so hard not to want to fight fire with fire. You know tit for tat? Give what you get mentality. But the truth is those thoughts that cross our minds, are of our flesh and it is a very common reaction to an emotion of hurt and/or anger. God forgive me when I was a teenager one of my bumper stickers used to say, "I don't get mad, I get even". But there are grown adults that will boast that claim today. What I have learned as I grew in the Lord and my husband has taught me so much as he studies is that we need to ask the Lord "to empty me of me so that I can be filled with you." The more we become like Him, the less our flesh controls. Having done that, we need to study God's Word for the bible tells us the battle is the Lord's, (1 Samuel 17:47) not ours and vengeance is His so we need not worry when someone hurts or betrays us because the Lord sees all. And the truth is when we stand in His presence and He is part of our daily walk, He knows man's hearts and their true intentions and He will deal with them accordingly. The Lord is never pleased when someone hurts one of His children. We are to love one another as God loves us. It takes a bigger person to forgive and turn their cheek than someone who retaliates. God despises it when we justify our sin. If someone does you wrong in any way, take a breath and get on your knees. Try not to react in your flesh. Recite to the Lord the promises He makes and state your case to Him. Praise and worship His name and give the person to Him and He will take care of it. I remember years ago an employer owed me money and they wrote a legal fancy letter stating they were not going to release the monies to me and I was upset to say the least but I did nothing. I waited upon the Lord and less than a week later a certified package came and out came a check made out to me from my former employer, no letter of explanation, simply a check for all the monies. Now I know they did not do that on their own rather than the Lord fought my battle and convicted them to do the right thing and it was later confirmed to me that they only gave me the money for fear of "what I might do because I was doing nothing." Isn't the Lord amazing? If you are fighting the urge to retaliate or react to something or someone that has done you wrong, please meditate on the words of our Father in heaven when He tells us "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay", saith the Lord.(Romans 12:19)
