Idolatry is the silent spiritual killer. It is subtle and most people don't even know they are committing it. I am so beyond grateful that I have the relationship that I do have with my Lord because "He" called me out on mine three years ago and painfully showed me that He "ranked" 4th in the line of order. I was embarrassed and mortified to say the least then stunned because I never even looked at it that way. But when the Lord takes the time to come down to your level to reveal sin in your life, you better pay attention. I listened and obeyed quickly because I have that young girl mentality of never wanting to be in trouble because the wrath of God is real and it is serious. Too often people only see how loving our Father is and of course that is true but when we are saved, it isn't to give us this fairy tale angelic life, it is to save us from our sin in the way of our Savior, Jesus Christ. But we need to know that although He is a loving God, He is also a just God and does not tolerate sin. Furthermore, the bible tells us in Matthew 10:33 "But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven". ( If you have had an opportunity to commit your life to Christ and have denied Him, I would pray right where you are and ask the Lord to convict your heart because you are being deceived into thinking it is no big deal but your decision to commit to God or deny Him will determine your future life in heaven or hell). And for those that are like me and are serving their Almighty God but have placed other gods before Him, take note. For our God is a jealous God (Deuteronomy 6:15) who wants us to place Him first in our lives; thus the Ten Commandments' first command "Thou shalt have no other gods before me". Do not justify this sin in your life for He despises that. Ask Him to show you the idols in your life. Did you know if you place your child's college fund before tithing, your child is your idol. Did you know if you serve in your local church in multiple ministries but never attend church, your service is your idol. Did you know that if you are busy studying notes for your business meeting or prepping your lesson plans for school and not taking time to study God's Word each morning, your work is your idol. It is not just the obvious such as money, lust, materialistic things..that is why I deem it the "silent spiritual killer" for you don't even know you are committing it. I pray that this helps unmask what idols are in your life. May you lay them at God's feet and recommit God as your first and foremost priority. He is the first person you should honor and obey with your time, actions and tongue, not your spouse, child, career or bank account. Give each day to Him for this is the day He made. Don't waste precious time like I did. I paid a heavy price for my sin and although I am grateful for the journey, there were consequences for the wrath of God was upon me and my idols. I was stripped of many blessings but that was my wrongdoing, no one else's. Take accountability today. Stop denying it. And stop forsaking the One that breathed life into you for idolatry is thievery. And I will leave you with this....the very thing you hold on to the tightest, is the very thing He will take from you.
Isaiah 57:12-13 "I will expose your righteousness and your works, and they will not benefit you. When you cry out for help, let your collection [of idols] save you! The wind will carry all of them off, a mere breath will blow them away. But the man who makes me his refuge will inherit the land and possess my holy mountain."
