Saturday, February 2, 2013 Give with a Cheerful Heart

Luke 6:38

Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.

The Lord wants us to give to one another without hesitation or reservation.  Whether the person can return the favor or not, whether they are able to reciprocate or not, should never be part of our mindset. In fact the bible tells us we are to give, not loan anything without expectations of a return. The complete opposite of how some believers are. I know some that will lend you anything as long as you have A1 credit and can guarantee a return in full on a specific date, not exactly a genuine act.  And those usually have it to give. Yet others who barely can take care of their own families are the first to offer their hand in anyway to help those less fortunate. They heed the call for those in need and that is how the Lord wants us all to be. I remember right after my husband and I received some very unsettling news financially we gave a love offering to a waitress we had only met once in a local diner because she was in dire need. I remember the day well because my husband was not hesitating or backing out on his word to her and I knew we had to give the offering despite our own financial crisis.  The reason why we were so sure and at peace doing it was we knew the Lord would provide for us. We knew then and we still know today that He is our Provider, Jehovah Jireh, and there is nothing He cannot do for you or for me. Giving from our excess is not sacrificing anything  (Mark 12:41-44) but giving off our own need, that is truly doing God's work. I will leave you with one of His wonderful promises and I pray it helps you give with a cheerful and loving heart. Deuteronomy 15:10 "Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to."
