Thursday, March 7, 2013 Is Evangelism a Gift ?

"It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists... Ephesians 4:11

How do you share your faith with another?  The bible says, "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19  It is something we are expected to do.  But like I tell anyone, it must be done in a peaceful and gentle way. Think how nice it is to smell someone's soft scent of perfume or cologne vs. the over powering of someone else's.  That is how the Lord equates our "evangelizing".

The word evangelism means the spreading of the Christian gospel by preaching or personal witness. The gift of evangelism is the ability and desire to boldly and clearly communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ so that non-Christians can become Christians.

Although some are called to be evangelists, they do not bear the sole responsibility of saving the lost. Their responsibility is to teach others how to share their faith. Preaching the gospel is not a gift but a command of all born again Christians. See the difference? I do not go out on the street corner and "air preach" but my husband can.  He has the true gift of evangelism and he actively shares his gift with others and shows others how to share their faith.  And he is being obedient to God's Word. We are all supposed to be telling others about Jesus.  People's styles may differ aka "friendship evangelism" and "aggressive evangelism". Some preach it from a grace stand point while others preach the gospel from the "needing a Savior standpoint" because we are sinners destined for hell. Very different approaches indeed.  But the truth is the Lord dwells within us and He will always give us the proper approach and words we need when sharing Him with another. We may not all be called to be reapers but we are all called to be sowers.   If Christians do not Sow the seed of the Word and then water, fertilize and weed the field, there won’t be a harvest when the Reaper comesSomeone recently made a comment to someone that my Facebook page was all inspirational messages on it and they said, "she thinks she is some sort of evangelist".  Can I tell you that was one of the greatest compliments I could hear being said about me?  I choose to use the social media (my blog is read in all countries most frequently Russia and Germany) to spread God's message.  It is a wonderful tool the Lord created for this purpose.  Of course the enemy turned the computer and the internet into evil but we as believers can use it for good.  So this message is from the Lord to you for I did not seek this message nor intend to even write about it. The Holy Spirit takes over this keyboard so it is He speaking, not I.  So let's obey the Lord's desire for all of His children to fish for men.  Save the lost.  Light up the dark.  Be God's love for another.  One of the greatest forms of evangelism is your walk.  How you live your life.  So don't ever think you are not gifted or bold enough...we all are...share your faith by living it.  Study his Word for the confidence.  I believe the Lord is coming back soon and is commanding His children to be soldiers in the battle. So are you ready for the battle?

"All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. GO THEREFORE! Make disciples of all the nations." Matthew 28:18-19

EVANGELISM IN SCRIPTURE Luke 19:10 says that "the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." People accused Jesus of being "a friend of tax collectors and ‘sinners'" because he had many evangelistic relationships with sinful people (Matthew 11:19). Philip (Acts 21:8) and Timothy (2 Timothy 4:5) are also examples of evangelists.
