Monday, July 8, 2013 "Love is Patient"

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient.  And it also happens to be the very first line in this famous wedding vow bible verse.  Love is the foundation to our faith; Christianity. God showed us His unconditional love on the cross when He sent His only Son to die for us so that we could live. (John 3:16)  No one would do that. Would you?  Parents would never sacrifice their only child so that another could live.  The depth of that love is what we should center our relationships around, especially for those that are married.  Love is everything but self. We are to know ourselves and love ourselves in order to show that love to another, but ultimate true love is selfless, not selfish. It is patient.  In this society today, couples have one argument and they file for divorce. How about some patience? Some understanding? Some compromise and compassion? How about forgiveness?  If more couples treated love as God instructed us to in His living Word, the divorce rate would not be at 50%. Be patient with your children, your friends, your boss and co-workers.  We cannot expect everyone to be like us, to think like us, to believe like us. Let's show love to one another the way the Lord intended it. Let's not only know this bible verse because it is cited at almost every wedding ceremony, let's know this verse by heart because we live by it. Amen?!
