Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29
If you want to know what is in your heart, listen to what comes out of your mouth. Someone shared that with me yesterday and it stuck with me. Our words can be so telling to how we truly feel about something or someone. Words can breathe life or they can breathe death. Do you realize the difference you can make in one person's day simply by giving them a word of encouragement through a word of praise versus a critical word through negative comments? I had to learn real quick the best way to motivate a staff of employees is by offering praise before criticism. You can constructively communicate with another with pure honesty and love and tell someone how you feel. We so often grow defensive with one another because we are so used to being criticized....all of us. It is rare to find people that offer compliments easily or encouraging words. And when people speak, their words can do a lot of damage for it tells us what is really in their heart. The Lord knows this too. We can fool everyone but we cannot fool the One who created us. Speak life into one another. Show them the love of God. We are His living testimonies, His representative therefore we need to show others how to be. It always starts with us. Keep your heart filled with all things lovely, Godly, holy. Ask the Lord to transform you and He will and the more you become like Him, the kinder your words and thoughts will be. I love the lyrics, "change my heart Oh God, make it ever true, change my heart oh God, may I be like You." What a wonderful world it would be if we all were more like Him and less like the world.
