Tuesday, October 15, 2013 "Happy Birthday Dad"

Children, obey [your] parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Colossians 3:20

Today would have been my Dad's 94th birthday.  He passed away eight years ago and I must say losing a parent is one of the most gut wrenching times of one's life. He was my first real death and it was devastating to me but somehow with my Mom still alive, she kept him alive. But when we lost my Mom last year and had to come to the realization I no longer have any living parents, you feel very isolated, very alone, almost "orphan like". There is no longer a person that calls you son or daughter, no more Mother's Day or Father's Day celebrations, no more big family holiday dinners, very very sobering.  But the good news is because of my relationship with Jesus Christ, I know that they are living still with Him. That I was blessed beyond measure to be raised by two loving parents, in a stable home. The "I Love You's" may not have been the most said words but there was a lot of love. And I am forever grateful to the Lord for blessing me with my earthly parents.  With Jesus in my life, I know now that I will never be an orphan, I will never be alone nor isolated for my Father of the Most High is with me every day, in every way my parents were. I can talk with Him, He listens, He guides me and protects me, He teaches me and He watches over me. And I know there will be that wonderful day where we will all be reunited once more. So for today, I remember my Dad and I say, "Happy Birthday Dad, give Mom a kiss for me and I can't wait to see you both again."
