"12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:12-14
We must turn away from our past and not look back. Forget what is behind as the words of Paul warn us and press on towards the goal. Our treasures are being stored up in Heaven, not the things of this world. We are not citizens of the earth. Often times when we give our hearts to Christ and commit our lives to Him, we have to walk away from people that may in fact hurt our walk. The Bible does not say to only like those that love Him but it does warn us to be careful and mindful not to look to those as role models. In fact there is no gray area with Christianity. You either serve the Almighty Lord and live to please Him or you don't. Those that do not believe will not try to live a holy life so sometimes it is hard to remain friends with those after you convert. If you go on to finish the rest of the story, the Bible tells us how to handle such matters. Stay steadfast for Christ. Look to Him for all things holy and be mindful of your circle and who you surround yourself with. Ask Him for His wisdom, revelation and truth and He will guide you through this life. Just trust Him and follow Him.
Philippians 17-21; keep your eyes on those who live as we do. 18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body."
