The only One you should try to please in this world is the Lord. Not man, not yourself. He is to be the first priority in your life. If everyone truly was able to change their mindset to that one fact, there would be more happy people on this planet. I remember when I used to work in a very high energy environment and there was extreme pressure daily, I wanted to just quit. But I would hear in church that the Lord is our employer and the He chooses for us where we are to work and it is He that employs us and pays us. If you do everything with the attitude that you are doing it for God, it will lessen the stresses of work. And that mindset sustained me for over two decades. When the Lord finally released me from that world years later, I would once again be reminded that He is the provider, not man. I found myself up late one night thinking about the income we lost and my mind was starting to panic that we would never prosper again and I remember climbing into bed and the Lord spoke to my heart right then and said, "your blessings come from me, not employer's name". And I quickly was reminded that He chose to bless us both through that employer but that season of time has passed and our blessings will continue to flow. The lesson learned is He chooses the vessels to which He will bless us through. We all get so caught up thinking we are living this life our self and all decisions being made are of our own and that is all a farce. For children of God are set apart from this world and He lights our path of righteousness. It is His will that we fulfill, not ours. Once I truly knew this truth, I was set free. And if someone asked me to describe my journey these last three years, I would have to say FREE. I feel free. All chains of bondage are gone from slavery to possessions to idolatry....all gone by the power of the Holy Spirit. And He wants to do that for all His children if we would only surrender all to Him. Work, family, marriages, children, finances, hobbies, everything is from Him. We are not creating anything on our own and we need to admit to that truth. The best way to sum up it all is written in the great Book and it says "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man." Psalm 118:8.
